How to Fake an Instagram Post Screenshot for Product Marketing
A fake Instagram post screenshot is a feed card: avatar, username, optional location, image, caption, like/comment/share counts. It is not a DM. If you need Direct bubbles, use the Instagram DM generator instead.
This is a checklist you can run against the Instagram post editor (that template is the free one in Social Feeds). Goal: a PNG that reads as a real capture, for product marketing, not a collage of brand assets dumped into a phone frame.
Pre-flight checklist
Run this before you generate anything.
- One photo story (studio, product, place). Not three ideas in one caption.
- A username that could exist (
your_brand), notOfficial_Company_Name_Inc - Counts that sit in the same world (likes vs comments vs shares)
- Caption length that matches the account type (a cafe is not a news org)
- Posted-ago text in Instagram's voice (
2 HOURS AGO), notPosted 2 hours ago.
If any box is open, fix the brief. The maker will happily export a nonsense post.
Assemble the post in the generator
Open social-instagram-post. Fill identity first: username, verified badge if the story is a known brand (do not verify a random demo account unless that is the joke), location if the photo needs a place (Lisbon, Portugal is already in the default).
Upload or keep the image placeholder. A post with a perfect caption and a blank gray square still looks like a wireframe. Product marketing screenshots need a picture that could be the grid.
Then caption, then counts, then postedAgo. That order stops you from decorating numbers on an empty post.
Caption and count math
Viewers may not do arithmetic, but they feel when a post with 12 likes has 1.5K comments. Keep the stack plausible:
- Small account: hundreds of likes, tens of comments
- Mid: thousands of likes, comments in the hundreds
- Big: you can go higher, but share count should not outrun comments by a wild margin unless you are simulating a viral clip
Caption: one or two sentences, maybe a line break. Hashtag walls look dated and they eat the crop. The default in the template ("Six months of weekends and the studio is finally done.") is the right length. Copy that rhythm, not a landing-page H1.
Where this PNG goes
| Channel | Crop |
|---|---|
| Website "as seen on" | Full post, readable username |
| Paid social | Tighter on image + first caption line |
| Pitch deck | Full post, don't shrink until type fails |
Browse other feed templates in Social Feeds if Instagram is the wrong network.
Fail: using a DM as a post
Inbox chrome in a "our Instagram" section confuses people. Post vs DM are different templates on purpose.
Fail: Facebook reaction math on an IG card
Facebook has reaction stacks. Instagram has likes. Do not paste 1.2K reactions into an IG caption workflow. Use the Facebook post if you need that network.
Fail: Reddit title energy
All-caps debate titles belong on Reddit. See fake Reddit post maker. Instagram captions are quieter.
